WASHINGTON – The Embassy of Israel has retained Commercial Window Shield  for the installation of a framed polycarbonate ballistic-resistant window protection system. The project involves the installation of the BulletShield system. The system being installed is UL752, Level 1-rated. The issue at hand is the presence of a public access dog-walking terrace on one side of the building. That access is deemed a security risk to the occupants of the embassy. The ballistic-resistant window protection system is being installed to protect embassy employees and visitors in the event of an armed attack.   WASHINGTON – May Construction of Chevy Chase, Md. has hired Commercial Window Shield for a switchable smart film installation project in the nation’s capital.   The project involves installing switchable smart film in office space at 580 Water St. SW as part of a buildout for May client OTJ, a prominent, nationwide architectural firm. The switchable smart film  installation is being integrated into OTJ’s integrated Lutron lighting system.   Switchable smart film is installed on the interior side of the office or conference room glass.  An electrical component that is integrated into the film is wired to a light switch by the installers.   When the switch is flipped on, the film remains clear allowing passersby to see inside and those inside to see outside. So, there is complete transparency, which is the norm.   However, when the switch is turned off the film becomes opaque. This action blocks views of the interior and, essentially, turns the glass into a blacked-out privacy
